Eddie Torres and Salsa On 2

One of the veterans who didn’t agree with the term Salsa was Eddie Torres, also called the king of salsa (ironically enough).

Around 80s he was talking with the musicians of that time and first was to define the Salsa On 2 style or Mambo dance. That means he was first to systemize the dance by introducing the terms and dictionary of dance steps. That way people could finally learn and teach others salsa.

As a consequence it helped to spread salsa worldwide so now many famous salsa dancers were influenced and taught by him (Frankie Martinez, Adolfo Indacochea, etc…).

It is interesting how in the second video he expresses the importance of systemizing the steps.

Although dancing by feeling and expressing yourself is important that is just one part of the bigger puzzle.

What completes a dancer is the infinite freedom to express, and also the borders which he sets to systemize the technique and motion.
