This is salsa. Or then it was called Mambo. And it was during the 60s in New York. During those days dancers came into one place. Palladium Ballroom. In those time racism was a lot stronger and that was maybe the only place when the segregation did not exist. You could see a black man dance with a white woman and throw her around which was seen as very “provocative” then.
What is interesting is that didn’t have any systematic way of learning. At that time salsa did not exist in defined manner. That was just pure feeling.
I would say it’s kind of funny how they danced: they often shook their heads, jumped around, and mainly danced footwork. But in the end they had a ball and they didn’t care.
What I want to point out is that the systems and norms are there for a reason, but after some time it is necessary to let go of the rules, forget everything you learned and just enjoy.
