What Salsa dance style is the best?

February 23, 2021

This is a fascinating talk from Johnny Vasquez.

Sometimes there is a tendency to separate, to categorize. To think what we like is better than other things. In the salsa context, there is a tendency to think that one type of dance is better than another.

Do we forget how it all came to be?

As stated in the previous articles, before there wasn’t a defined type of salsa. People just came to dance and enjoy the time, it was a way to forget all the problems. That was a way for people to transcend themselves.

The terms and categorization should help us as a tool to better communicate and move towards progress. It should help us to find a better solution for our problems.

It was not supposed to be used for quarrel. It was not intended to inflict pain on others.

We can have our favorites, but we have to respect others.

As Johny said: The more you dance, and the more rhythms you know the more complete dancer you’ll be.

It is interesting how many famous dancers started to dance because a girl left them (Eddie Torres also said that in his interview).
